Book Review: One to Skip

Just finished The Time Traveler's Wife. I want my 8 days and 546 pages back.

Don't you just hate that feeling?

I liked your old motto better than the new one, by the way.

I only read the first two chapters then took it back to the library.

I loved THE HELP by Kathryn Stockett, and THE KITCHEN HOUSE (can't remember the author)

What's next on your TBR list?

Fiona, you're much smarter than I am! I'm not sure why I read TTW to the end; I usually quit a book early on if I don't like it. I'd heard so many good things about it, and the idea was interesting, so I hung on. In the end, it was just too much--too much swearing*, too much sex*, too much blathering, too much trying to impress me with references to obscure punk bands and highfalutin works of art and poets... And what it didn't have enough of could fill another 546 pages.

The TBR shelf is overflowing, but I don't have my heart set on anything right now. Guess that's why I'm in the middle of a few non-fiction books right now (Blue Latitudes, Dark Banquet, Cracker Queen), none of which I'm that engaged in. I'm thinking of starting Julia Child's My Life in France, which I keep checking out, but maybe I'll look for The Help instead.

*And I'm no prude. Really.

What are you reading? What else do you recommend?
