Summer '08 First

Haricot verts

(Sounds so much nicer than "green beans," doesn't it?)

Haricot verts are different than regular old green beans, in that you cook
them (very briefly) when they're still quite skinny and very tender.

These are Alicante, which I grew last year. I'm also growing Maxibel (FREE gift from Seeds of Change).

I hadn't intended to pick any, but when I saw that they were just the right size I thought I'd better before they exploded overnight or were eaten by bean beetles. (Both of which happened last year.)

Here's the first '08 harvest--5 ounces worth, which is just about right to use in a side dish with dinner tomorrow.

Cheers!
