Book #2 Review
2 Down, 50 Left

The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver
Fiction/Literature
4.5/5 Stars
Note: This was a Christmas present from #1 Son Sean. He sure knows how to pick 'em.

Bravo!

Can you believe that some folks criticize this effort as immature? Kingsolver created some lovable, interesting characters who are so realistic that it's easy to forget they're fictional. I can't wait to read more about Taylor and Turtle in Pigs in Heaven.

This one's close to tipping over to 5 stars--maybe after another read. (I can only think of two books to which I'd give 5 stars: To Kill a Mockingbird and The World According to Garp--both of which I've read numerous times and grow to love more with each reading.)

Cheers,
Barb

I tried to read Garp once. I wanted to blow my own head off after a number of chapters and so I quit. I have watched the movie a few times with only moderate self-mutilations occurring.

Yeah, I admit that "Garp" is kinda weird and certainly not for everybody. Maybe there's something wrong with me.

How do you feel about "Mockingbird"? I think it's the only perfect piece of literature ever written.
